savoy and jura
The Savoy and Jura regions are affected by a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. Additionally the brooding presence of mountain ranges can have a noticeable affect on the weather, causing sudden changes.
The soil is mainly clay and limestone. The main grape varieties in the Jura are, for the reds, Pinot Noir and local varieties Poulsard and Trousseau and for the whites, Chardonnay and Sauvignan. in Savoy these are replaced by Gamay and Pinot Noir for the reds and Jacquère, Chasselas and Chardonnay for the whites.
The speciality of the region are vins de paille (literally straw wines) which are sweet white wines.
Our partners in this region are:
Domaine Giachino, who produces a lovely dry & fruity white - Montfarina.
