Michèle and Yves Gros and their daughter Christelle produce their wonderful wines from Domaine Fouques on the slopes of the Maures Massif, deep in the Provence region of the French Riviera. From the slopes of their vineyard you can look out over the coastline to the blue waters of the Mediterranean sea and the idyllic island of Porquerolles situated in the marine reserve.
The biodynamic principles that Yves, Michèle and Christelle practice seek to achieve harmony between the planet, animals and man. It respects the cycles of nature (solar and lunar rhythms) and by balancing their needs with those of their animals and land they seek to create a sustainable and fertile environment without any addition of synthetic chemicals.
All the chickens, ducks, guinea-fowl and capons are free to roam wild and breed outside under the wild rosemary. The soil of the Maures has a high mineral content and to balance it with organic matter they balance this with fertiliser is made entirely from the organic product from the Domaine.
In their spare time both Yves and Michèle are active to promote and support the organic movement and local agriculture. Yves is the regional President of the equivalent of our Soil Association and Michèle is co-president of the local branch of the Confédératoin Paysanne. Christelle is the œnologist of the family and she manages all aspects of the production of the wine and the winery in addition to bringing up her four children with her husband Jacques.
