Domaine de la Puannerie
|
Domaine de la Puannerie consists of a mere 7 hectares in St Julian de Chedon, in the Touraine. It is run by Michel Deville who has only recently added this vineyard to his portfolio. Michel's wife's family have lived in the area for generations and she used to play in these vines as a girl. It was always a dream for her to take them over and make the fantastic wines that she knew so well from her youth. An ambition now fulfilled. |

Michel has always had a close attachment to the land and, in addition to the organic principles used, the vines are managed totally by hand, with all the pruning and tying being lovingly completed by the family. With around 6,000 vines per hectare (some 42,000 altogether) this is indeed a labour of love. The vines range in ages, with the majority over 20 years and some 40 years old.
The wines are certified organic by a partner organisation to Agriculture Biologique (ACLAVE). So, organic, well established and well managed - what more could you ask? |

They manage to produce about 4,500 litres of wine from each hectare, which isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things and we are lucky to be able to feature this wine in our selection, but once it's gone we'll all need to wait until the next vintage!
There are 3 hectares of Sauvignon grapes, 2 of Cabernet, 1 of Gamay with the final hectare planted with Chenin and Malbec (known as Cot in the Loire.)
