Chateau Lionel Faivre
|
Historically, the Corbieres region has always been associated with wine production. from the vines planted by the Phoenicians, updated by the Romans, tended by Cistercian monks in the 12th Century and passing through many hands up to the present.
The current Chateau was constructed in the seventeenth century and during the nineteenth century, as the region was opened up and wines began to be sold throughout France and Europe, Adolphe de Montredon converted the entire territory of the Chateau into vineyards. |

In 1885, the vines were decimated by phylloxera and the estate was sold at auction in 1908 to a Mr Meyer, a swiss wine merchant, who re-established the vinyards, replanted the hillsides and allowed the estate to recover its prestige. From 1935, the owners refused the use of pesticides and weedkillers, the only growers in the region to do so.
The same love of the soil and of authenticity in wine inspires current owner Laurent Max, who brought with him a long experienc of wine growing in Burgundy. Since 1990 the organic status of the wine has been formally guaranteed by Ecocert.
