 Saint Henri AOC Gigondas 2002
This wine is a deep red colour and gives aromas of black fruits, violets and liquorice. In the mouth it is powerful and yet smooth and the tastes match the bouquet.
It is made from 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre grapes from vines with an average age of 65 years and growing on a chalky-clay soil. Some of the vines were planted in 1925.
It is traditionally made and kept in huge vats for at least 3 years to mature and develop the complexity required.
It an be drunk immediately or laid down for those special occasions when a really good wine is required.
Open for a couple of hours to get the full tastes and serve with coq au vin, pork (or even chocolate tart with raspberries! Go on try it...)at 18 degrees C.
